Stormdry
by Safeguard

Safeguard have announced Stormdry, a deeply penetrating masonry water-repellent supplied as a ready-for-use cream.

Stormdry is the result of over three years research and development, resulting in a product that is
 - Easy to apply (time-saving one-coat application)
 - Effective on a wide range of masonry substrates
 - Breathable (does not block pores)
 - Deeply-penetrating
 - UV resistant
 - Alkali resistant (suitable for application onto freshly pointed walls).

Stormdry's deep penetration gives it a performance advantage over previous generation masonry water-repellents such as Raindance or Raincheck Plus. Because Stormdry penetrates deeply into masonry, it is more resistant to the erosion of the masonry surface over time, giving it a life expectancy of twenty to thirty years.

One of the key design criteria of Stormdry was to produce a product that would be effective on neutral building materials as well as concrete. The Stormdry formulation has been formulated to achieve this aim and has been shown to be effective when tested to EN ISO15148:2002 (E) on a range of commonly used masonry materials including
 - Fletton Brick
 - West Hoathley Brick
 - Mortar
 - Blaxter Sandstone
 - York Sandstone
 - Sheffield Sandstone
 - Concrete.

Stormdry's most obvious application is in the treatment of rain penetration (penetrating damp). However, it also has applications in
 - Flood protection
 - Improving the insulation properties of walls (particularly of hard to treat homes)
 - Improving the performance of certain types of cavity wall insulation by keeping it free from moisture.
