The Wykamol group
were asked to take a look at a large basement area situated within a
listed building. The basement area required waterproofing, and a design
specification was needed.
Based on Dale Street, Liverpool, the basement would be part of a new
boutique hotel called the Layla.
The hotel,
costing around £14 million pounds, is expected to be one of its kind in
Merseyside. The plans have been based on Burj-Al-Arab, Dubai, the world's
only seven star hotel.
The Layla Hotel will feature a total of 80 bedrooms, a swimming pool, a
gym, a restaurant, its own cinema, a chill out zone, a wedding room and
even its own beach with sand! It will be aimed at the more elite members
of society. Joint owners Dr Marwan Koukash and the Iliad Group have dreams
of the hotel becoming one the top five in Europe.
After careful
inspection of the basement, the design specification was completed and all
in all a total of 3000 m2 of membrane was needed. This membrane is
currently being fitted. Along with the vast amount of membrane there was a
need for a total of six sump chambers. With the work still underway, we
will keep you updated with the progress of what will turn out to be a
truly amazing transformation of a dark, unused basement into a stunning
space!
